大学院生の片桐碧海さん、Floret Maame Owusuさん、軸屋ななみさんが第9回アフリカ開発会議(TICAD9)に参加しました。Graduate students Aomi Katagiri, Floret Maame Owusu, and Nanami Jikuya participated in the 9th Tokyo International Conference on African Development (TICAD9).

大学院生の片桐碧海さん、Floret Maame Owusuさん、軸屋ななみさんが8月20日（水）から22日（金）まで横浜で開催された第9回アフリカ開発会議(TICAD9)に参加しました。
片桐碧海さんは、Floret Maame Owusuさんの出身国であるガーナ共和国を2024年1月に訪問した際、ガーナにおける母子保健のあゆみと課題、また日本が中心となって支援してきた母子手帳の取り組みを目のあたりにしました。そして、そのガーナ訪問の様子と、高所得国が低中所得国を支援する責務についての考察が、朝日新聞with Planetに掲載されました。
そして片桐碧海さんは、世界保健機関（WHO）が掲げる「誰一人取り残さない」世界の実現に向けて、特に子どもの基本的な医療（プライマリー・ヘルスケア）へのアクセス向上の重要性を再認識し2025年の2月一般社団法人Reaching Zero-Dose Childrenを創設しました。
一般社団法人Reaching Zero-Dose Children の活動の一環として、片桐碧海さん、Floret Maame Owusuさん、軸屋ななみさんは、TICAD9に先立ち、Sport for Tomorrow × Africa Action Day 2025で「One Cup, One Action」イベントを開催しました。
Sport for Tomorrow × Africa Action Day 2025は、スポーツやカルチャーを通して日本の方々にアフリカをもっと知ってもらう、絆を深めることを目的としたTICAD9公式パートナー事業です。本イベントへ出展に際し、東京科学大学グローバル健康医学（Master of Public Health in Global Health (MPH）)コースでの講義の学びを活かし、参加者に対する啓発活動としてガーナを訪問した際の学びに基づいたクイズや、エチオピアのコーヒー豆の販売、コーヒードリップバッグのオリジナルパッケージ作り体験を通して環境に配慮したコーヒー豆栽培やフェアトレードの重要性について発信を行いました。
また、TICAD9に際し、ゲイツ財団のBill Gates氏が訪日し、グローバルヘルスをエンパワーするイベント「Hope Begins with Health」が開催されました。一般社団法人Reaching Zero-Dose Childrenで代表を務める片桐碧海さんはユースリーダーとして登壇し、すべての子どもが誰一人取り残されることなく基本的な医療（プライマリー・ヘルスケア）にアクセスできる社会の必要性について訴えました。そのために、国境や様々な分野の隔たりを越えて、一致団結して問題に取り組むことの重要性に言及しました。
TICAD9当日は、90分間のテーマ別イベント「未来をつなぐ視点 日本とアフリカのユースが考える健康格差」を主催しました。
日本・ガーナ友好議員連盟会長である坂井学衆議院議員、Gavi ワクチンアライアンスのHead of Public Policy Engagement (Regional and Country) であるChioma S.Nwachukwu氏と共に片桐碧海さん、Floret Maame Owusuさんが登壇し、「なぜ日本が対外支援に取り組む必要があるのか」をテーマにパネルディスカッションを実施しました。グローバルヘルス分野において今後も引き続き対外支援を行っていくことの重要性を再確認するとともに、対外支援が日本にもたらす有益性にも着目する必要性について話しました。
Floret Maame Owusuさんは、日本の支援によってガーナの医療に様々な改善があったこと、またガーナでは医療従事者の国外への人材流出が大きな問題であることについて話しました。これは決して個人の選択の問題ではなく、社会構造的な課題として上流からアプローチすることの必要性について述べました。
TICAD9の開会式にて、石破総理大臣は今後5年間でGaviワクチンアライアンスに対して最大5.5億ドルの貢献を行うことを発表しました。TICAD9期間中、片桐碧海さん、Floret Maame Owusuさん、軸屋ななみさんは、Gaviワクチンアライアンス事務局長のSania Nishtar氏と直接懇談し、日本からの拠出の実現に一般社団法人Reaching Zero-Dose Childrenのアドボカシー活動が貢献したことへの感謝の言葉をいただきました。また、ゼロドース児の課題に焦点を当てて継続的に活動している点も高く評価いただきました。

Graduate students Aomi Katagiri, Floret Maame Owusu, and Nanami Jikuya participated in the 9th Tokyo International Conference on African Development (TICAD9), held in Yokohama from Wednesday, August 20 to Friday, August 22.
During Aomi’s visit to the Republic of Ghana, Floret’s home country, in January 2024, Aomi witnessed the progress and challenges in maternal and child healthcare in Ghana, as well as the efforts surrounding the Maternal and Child Health Record Book, a program Japan has been central to supporting. Her account of this visit to Ghana and her reflections on the responsibility of high-income countries to support low- and middle-income countries were published in Asahi Shimbun’s “with Planet”.
Recognizing the critical importance of improving access to basic healthcare (primary healthcare) for children, especially in achieving the World Health Organization’s (WHO) vision of a world where we “leave no one behind,” Aomi founded NGO Reaching Zero-Dose Children in February 2025.
Ahead of TICAD9, Aomi, Floret, and Nanami hosted the “One Cup, One Action” event at Sport for Tomorrow × Africa Action Day 2025, as part of the activities of NGO Reaching Zero-Dose Children.
Sport for Tomorrow × Africa Action Day 2025 is one of TICAD9’s partner projects, aiming to deepen bonds and increase awareness of Africa among the Japanese public through sports and culture. For this event, they applied knowledge gained from their lectures in the Master of Public Health in Global Health (MPH) course at Institute of Science Tokyo. They prepared quizzes based on Aomi’s visit to Ghana, sold Ethiopian coffee beans, and offered a workshop to create original coffee drip packages to communicate the importance of environment-friendly coffee farming and fair trade.
As part of TICAD9, Bill Gates, Chair of the Gates Foundation visited Japan, hosting the event “Hope Begins with Health,” empowering global health. Aomi, who serves as the Executive Director of NGO Reaching Zero-Dose Children, took the stage as a youth leader. She advocated for the necessity of a society where all children have access to primary healthcare without leaving anyone behind. To achieve this, she emphasized the importance of uniting and working together across borders and various fields to tackle the issue.
Additionally, during TICAD9, NGO Reaching Zero-Dose Children hosted a 90-minute Thematic Event “Youth for Health Equity: Japan-Africa Dialogue.”
Together with Minister Manabu Sakai, Chair of the Japan-Ghana Parliamentary Friendship Association), and Chioma S. Nwachukwu, Head of Public Policy Engagement (Regional and Country) at Gavi, the Vaccine Alliance, Aomi, and Floret participated in a panel discussion on the theme “Why is it necessary for Japan to engage in supporting third countries?” The discussion reaffirmed the importance of continuing foreign aid in the global health sector, as well as the importance to highlight the benefits Japan gains out of foreign aid cooperation.
Floret shared that Japanese aid has led to various improvements in Ghana’s healthcare. She also touched upon the significant issue of brain drain among healthcare professionals in Ghana. She emphasized that this is not merely an issue of individual choice but a structural societal problem that requires an upstream approach.
At the opening ceremony of TICAD9, Prime Minister Ishiba announced Japan’s contribution of up to 550 million USD to Gavi, the Vaccine Alliance over the next five years. During one of the TICAD9 events, Aomi, Floret, and Nanami had the opportunity to speak directly with Gavi CEO Dr. Sania Nishtar, who expressed her gratitude for the advocacy efforts of NGO Reaching Zero-Dose Children, which contributed to securing Japan’s pledge. She also praised the organization’s continued focus on the critical issue of zero-dose children.
